. . . That your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.(Philippians 1:9)
Many of Paul's letter include a phrase regarding his prayers. The Philippian letter includes the phrase "And I Pray This". It is helpful to consider what Paul prayed about. Many times he is either commending the brethren for the works or he is making a prayer for their deeper growth and understanding in Christ. Below I have included segments of Philippians 1:9 and verses to help us think about this prayer of Paul's for deeper understanding and growth for his fellow brethern that can be an encouragement and lesson for us.
That your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment,
I Tim 1:5 – But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith
Ephesians 1:18-23 - I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
In order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ
Hebrews 11:6 - And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.
Having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
Galations 5:22-23 - But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
John 17:20-21 - I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.
John 13:34-35 - A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.
