I John 5:21 (ESV)
Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
Do you have an idol in your life? We each need to be careful that we do not put anything or anyone ahead of God.
Idols can take many forms. It could be sports. It could be our job. It could be our family. It could even be our smart phone. Anything that gets in the way of our relationship with God and distracts us from our true purpose can serve the place of an idol.
It is interesting that John closes I John with this reminder.
Idols will take our focus off of God. Idols can come into our lives in innocent ways. Satan will look for ways to take things that can be good and turn them into idols in our lives. Let us each be careful to make sure that we keep God and his word our daily focus. Let us be careful that we do not let anyone or anything take the place of an idol in our life.
May our constant prayer be that are all in all is God. That are aim is Heaven. Our greatest aspiration is to be a child of God. Our first love should be God. May our delight be in the "law of the Lord" and on that may we meditate day and night as the Psalmist wrote in Psalms 1:2.
